Suggest Remedies For Severe Cramps And Numbness In Legs

default
Posted on Fri, 8 Jul 2016
Question: A few times per week, all of a sudden my entire legged numb (like it fell asleep). Most often occurs when I'm standing in the shower or just standing in a fixed position for extended minutes. Circulation eventually returns - 5-10 minutes later. Last night, occurred while I was asleep. I woke at 5:30 with a severe cramp in my right foot - spamming uncontrollably for about 7 minutes. I got up to use restroom and my entire right side was asleep. Situation most often occurs on right side but it may have happened on left side once or twice. Has been ongoing for last 5 months pretty regularly (once/week).

Brief Answer:
Nerve root compression likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The feeling of numbness in the leg that you have is likely to be due to a mild disc prolapse at the level of lower lumbar spine that is causing a compression of the nerve roots on the right side more than the left.
To decrease its progression it is best to start with back strengthening exercises under the guidance of a physiotherapist and increase your fluid intake to avoid disc dehydration. Taking methylcobalamin supplements will also help.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
