Suggest Remedies For Severe Dandruff

Question: Hi Doctor,

I am suffering from lot of dandruff. I have used Scalp Solution. But it doesnt work.

Can you please help?

Detailed Answer:
I understand, dandruff can be annoying and persisting problem. I will suggest the use of medicated (ketoconazole) shampoo to treat this problem. One such brand is "Nizoral Shampoo". This is available over the counter at chemist / pharmacy stores.

This shampoo should be applied to the scalp and not merely rubbing hair. Leave the shampoo for few minutes before washing. You need to apply this shampoo three times a week for 3-4 months.

You should expect changes / improvement after 3 months with persistent and regular use of this shampoo.

Thank you Doctor. I also have hairfall. Will this shampoo help for dandruff and hairfall both.

Any other precautions should i take to prevent the recurrence of danruff?

Dandruff is one of the cause of hair fall. Therefore treating dandruff is absolutely essential.

As added benefits to treat hair fall, I will recommend the following:
1. Improve your diet. Add protein rich diet along with plenty of fruits and vegetables, especially root vetegables.
2, Manage stressors adequately. You need to sleep well, practice physical exercise, yoga, transcedental meditation.
3. Start biotin supplement - tab biotin forte once a day for 4-6 months.
