Suggest Remedies For Shortness Of Breath And Bronchitis While Treating Asthma

Question: I was diagnosed with asthma at 8 month old. When I turned 16 the asthma lessen, even without no treatment I had no symptoms for like 2 years. A few months ago I started having symptoms again. I am 27 years old now. My PCP ordered chest X-Ray that I will attached the results to this question. My recent ECG showed incomplete left bundle branch block, and atrium enlargement. My cardiologist said that this findings correlate with a chronic lung disease, especially asthma and that I should not be worry about that unless there is another cardiac change, I will have an ecocardiography done on Tuesday. The Lipid panel the PCP ordered came out fine, no high cholesterol, renal function and liver, everything within normal ranges. My question is: Today I woke up and had some shortness of breath but I had no wheezing or crackles, no adventitious sounds upon auscultation that normally when I feel short of breath I have the wheezing mostly over the left lung field, I do not get short of breath often either. I took my medications and did inhalations of steam, the symptom of shortness of breath after the inhalations lessen. I would like to hear your professional expertise on whether you might have astma whitout the presence of wheezing or not? Attached to this question my Chest X-Ray and Lipid Panel can be found.
Respectfully

Brief Answer:
yes you can have asthma without wheezing

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question,
I have reviewed your note and attached reports. Severe asthma usually presents with wheezing but mild to moderate asthma may only have shortness of breath. There is even a variation of asthma where people only have cough. It is called cough variant asthma. The test you need to determine if you have asthma is a pulmonary function test. This shows up obstructive lung disease like asthma. If you have this you need to be on appropriate medications for asthma as maintenance even if you are not currently having symptoms. It would also be a good idea for you to get a peak flow meter. This is something that will allow you to check on your asthma at home. Please see an asthma specialist or pulmonologist and get a pulmonary function test as soon as asthma.
I wish you the best,
Dr. Robinson
