Question: Hi Doctor,

Is there any face wash/skin cream which would lighten and glow the skin.

One of my close friend suggested me to use Melalite Cream.

I want to know the following things :

1. Face wash/ Skin Cream to lighten/Glow the skin color and how it works.
2. How effective is Melalite Cream
3. What should be the dosage and its use.
4. Duration of application to expect the change.
5. Will it be a temporary or permanent color change.
6. How about Calamine lotion.

It would be really appreciated if the responses are inline.

Thanks,
xxxxxxx

Brief Answer:
Use creams containing kojic acid, don't use melalite for skin lightening

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for being at healthcaremagic
For skin lightening and glow you can use creams containing kojic acid .
They work by decreasing the activity of pigment producing enzyme and hence reduce pigmentation.
Many brands containing kojic acid are available in the market like kojivit cream, kojiglo cream and clearz plus cream.
All are equally good.
Melalite cream containing hydroquinone which is used in the treatment of hyperpigmentation and melasma but not as regular cream for fairness and glow.
It can lead to various side effects like irritation , redness and increased darkening of the skin on prolonged use.
It should not be used for lightening of the skin.
Calamine lotion can be used regularly.
It acts as a physical sunblock and thats how it slightly improves the skin colour.
I hope to have answered your queries and would be happy to clarify any further doubts.

Thanks for your response Dr.

Will this even be helpful in case of acne pores and i have deep scars?

2nd question would be related to summer red-black marks produced on whole body. What should be done to make the skin clear in those areas.

Brief Answer:
This won't be effective in the treatment of open pores and deep scars

Detailed Answer:
Hi
This cream won't be very helpful in open pores and deep scars.
For those you need to go for either laser treatment or microneedling session.
Multiple sittings will be required after every 3-4 weeks.
Oral medicines and creams are not effective in the treatment of open pores and scrars.
Which marks on the body are you talking about?
Kindly upload the photographs of the marks so that I can have a clearer picture of the condition and can guide you accordingly.

Hi Doctor,

Please find the attached images of the dark spots @ front and back side of my body.

I have attached 2 pics(face1 & face2) of my deep scars in between eyebrow.

The remaining pics are related to acne in the cheeks region.

In these pics you can easily observe how oily my skin is in facial region.

Please suggest remedy to reduce the following:

1. Oil on the skin
2. Deep scar in mid of the eye brow.
3. Acne in cheeks region
4. clear skin(without black or red spots) in front and back side of the body

It would be really appreciated if responses are inline.

Thanks,

Answers below

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I have reviewed all the attached photographs.
For reducing oil on the skin use a salicylic acid facewash twice daily.
For deep scars in between the eye brows you need to consult a dermatologist and go for either microneedling treatment or laser treatment. These can't be corrected by creams or oral medication.
For acne on the cheeks I will usually recommend you to apply adapelene 0.1 percent gel at night on the acne lesions.
For the marks on the front and back side of the body which are acne lesions I recommend my patients to apply benzoyl peroxide 10 percent gel on the pimples twice daily and cream containing glycolic acid 12 percent at bedtime on the marks.
This will lighten the marks and also help in faster healing of the lesions.
These need to be continued for atleast 10-12 weeks to show significant results .
I hope to have answered your queries and would be happy to clarify any further queries.
