Suggest Remedies For Social Isolation

Question: My partner had a stroke last year, and since then believes has he has something called Social Isolation. I wandered if anyone could give me any information on the side effects/symptoms of this, and also any advice on the best way to support him?I am in a long distance relationship. I have been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder/Dependent Personality Disorder, and because of this diagnosis I feel my relationship is constantly under threat. Please help

I read your question carefully and I appreciate your concern about your partner.

Social isolation simply means isolation from the rest of the society, lack of contact and interaction with other people. It may be self imposed or as I assume is your partner's case may be due to the disability left by the stroke. You do not mention the affected brain area and what disability the stroke left in his case, but speaking in general stroke may cause speech issues, behavioral changes like apathy or irritability which may lead to damaging the relationship with other members of society and be alone and isolated. If stroke has led to hemiplegia, inability to move the limbs on one side, the restricted mobility as well can lead to social isolation.

So as you can see from this explanation it is not a question of social isolation being a primary diagnosis, it is more a consequence of the disability left by stroke. It doesn't cause any physical side effect but can contribute to developing mood disorders such as depression which has been proven to be more common in after stroke patients.
