Suggest Remedies For Twisted Ankle In A Child
Question: My 8 year old twisted her ankle when walking down the stairs yesterday afternoon and her left ankle twisted outwards. She said she heard a cracking sound. The outer edge of her foot hurts (fifth metatarsal- I think) and is swollen. She is elevating her foot and putting ice on it whenever possible. Today, She can walk on the foot but she says it is painful. I am planning to get a ace wrap for her foot today. I am wondering if this type of injury will heal itself or if I should take her to get an x-Ray?
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
I think you should get x ray of the foot
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case and I think she might have fracture in the foot. I would suggest you to get x ray of the feet. Do not apply any bandage or massage as it can cause further damage. If on x rays there is any fracture then she will need plaster.
If there is only soft tissue injury and no fracture then it will need only splint. I would suggest you to apply ice and take Brufen 200 mg or Advil till then. I hope this answer will be useful for you.Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
