Suggest Remedies For Yeast Infection In Groin Area

Posted on Mon, 1 Aug 2016
Question: I am taking clendomycin for a sinus infection but it seems to really impact yeast infection in the groin. I am a myasthenia patient and take imuran and prednisone. Can I apply boric acid (watered down) to help mitigate yeast? Also, can I take probiotics?

Brief Answer:
Boric acid and probiotics.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

Yes, yeast can be a problem from antibiotics. You can definitely take probiotics. Best to not take the probiotic at the same time as the antibiotic - separate them by a couple of hours so that the antibiotic doesn't just kill the probiotic. Best probiotics have a large amount of lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidus.

I am not familiar with using boric acid on outer skin, but you can try it. It shouldn't cause any harm. I'm just not sure how you can get it to adhere to your skin. You can ask a pharmacist if they have recommendations for how to apply it so that it stays on your skin. Possibly combining it with a lotion perhaps? Boric acid suppository capsules are used to treat resistant vaginal yeast infections, so there is no doubt that it can help with yeast problems.

Also keep your groin area as cool, dry and airy as possible. After showering, XXXXXXX dry, and consider further drying in the skin folds with a hair blow dryer set on low or "cool". Wear cotton boxers, and possibly no underwear when you sleep. Avoid eating sweets.

If the groin rash gets out of control, consider using clotrimazole or miconazole cream (which can be purchased at a drug store).

I hope you are soon better. Please let me know if I can provide further information.
