Suggest Remedy For Acne Due To Melatonin

default
Posted on Fri, 10 Oct 2014
Question: I had been taking Melatonin, time released , 10mg on a nightly basis due to insomnia. I did not realize that it contained vitaminB6 until, after a month or more, my facial skin had been breaking out with large acne type eruptions. The dosage of the vitamin B6 is 10 mg per tablet. I had been taking x4 tablets before bedtime and an additional 2 to 3 tablets. I have since stopped the Melatonin with the B6, two days ago. I am hoping that the skin eruptions will stop and ultimately clear up. I have no past history of acne or facial skin problems. NOTE: I also have Hep-C...in remission for 12 years after 48 weeks of chemo therapy in 2002.

Brief Answer:
Not to worry, it clears up.

Detailed Answer:
Skin eruption will clear up gradually.

Thank you for your Query.

First of all I would like to know that whether your sleep pattern is improved from melatonin or not?
When did you start taking melatonin?
Are your doctor suggested you to take Melatonin with vitamin B 6 for sleep? Or did you take it on your own?

Not to worry regarding skin eruption as it will be gradually cleared up.
If it will not improve you can take Azithromycin 500 mg once a day for 6 days.

There are many medications now a day’s available for insomnia like agomelatine which regulates the sleep cycle, benzodiazepines etc....

I am waiting for your response.

Thank you

My sleep pattern has improved after about 3 wks. The Melatonin was suggested by my PCP. Vit B6 combined with the Melatonin was an oversight on my end. Hadn't looked on the ingredients until a few days ago when I needed to buy some more and the original formula was unavailable. Yes, I was prescribed Valium and Lorazapam and I did not like the side affects. The Melatonin alone, seems to be better than any benzodiazapine I have tried., with no side affects, so far. Trying to keep my liver as healthy as possible. Thank you for your professional opinion. God Bless you and thanks again.
Have a great evening.

Brief Answer:
No need to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,

If you have no problem with melatonin alone and your sleep is improved with that then continue it for regulation of sleep cycle.

No need to take benzodiazepins as you have experienced side effects.

Other option is Agomelatine as I described ago, which has melatonergic effect.

Discuss about this treating doctor if needed.

If you have any query in future you can contact.

Thank you
