Suggest Remedy For Blood Blister On Interphalangeal Joint After Liquid Nitrogen Treatment

Question: Hi, I got a blood blister after liquid nitrogen treatment of a wart on the proximal inner phalangeal joint. The blood blister was in a diametar equal to the diametar of a finger. It grew for 7 days, and now, seven days after a treatment it popped on its own and released a lot of blood. I cleaned it, put on an antibiotic cream and close it with a bandage, but it is still bleading. what should I do? How to prevent a further infection, and how long will it last? My job requires using fingers and wearing gloves, should I avoid working in a lab and wearing gloves for the next few days?

Brief Answer:
If it is still bleeding for over 4 hours you need to be seen as an artery

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to HCM: could have been cut. Please note that that wound looks fine, my concern is that you are bleeding, and that can be serious, you should have clotted off by now, apply pressure for 20 minutes, and if you are still bleeding then someone needs to have a look at it. I do not think that you would get an infection unless you are exposed to dirty things like animals, garbage and as long as your tetanus shots are up-to date I would concentrate on the bleeding. About work, you clearly have an open wound that needs bandaged, you are obviously prone to get infection and diseases from the lab specimens lying around, you can go to Walgreen's and buy plastic skin, or tegarderm, this with use of gloves will pre-empt infection spread. Please tell me precisely how many hours it has been bleeding. Thanks

Thank you very much for your answer.

The blister was protected from cuts, but perhaps today I tightened the bandage too hard and the pressure popped it. So it has been 2 and a half hours, and the bleeding was slowly decreasing over that time. I changed the bandages and the bleeding now stopped. Thank you very much for the plastic skin/tegarderm advice. Do you perhaps know how long is the normal recovery time for blood blisters to heal?

Brief Answer:
Healing is anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks, all depends

Detailed Answer:
You are welcome, the problem is where it is you receive a lot of punishment to that hand and therefore naturally the healing is a little slower, but as long as you keep it dry and clean, it will start to granulate in 5 days and then new skin should form by the time one month or so is up.
