Suggest Remedy For Chills And Tremors While On Vertin, Stugeron And Syndopa
My mother is being treated for Parkinsons over the last 2 years. She is on Syndopa plus 3 times/day. She also has menier's and hence is prescribed with Vertin and Stematil and times Stugeron. She gets chills and tremors after all this.
We consult a neuro and general physician.
Is there some drug interaction that is not helping my mother with Syndopa, vertin, stematil and at times stugeron.
Thanks for your time and help.
Best Regards
Some of the drugs should be stopped.
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.
None of the drugs appear to have documented significant interactions with Syndopa.Still, Prochlorperazine(Stemetil) is an antipsychotic drug and Antipsychotic drugs in general are known to interact with Syndopa. So,it should be stopped.Further, one out of the two drugs-Stugeron and Vertin, may be stopped as both have almost similar clinical effects. Both of these are given as anti-vertigo drugs.
Please make it clear, when does she gets tremors and chills?None of these medicines should cause chills.Tremors can be due to Parkinson's disease itself. Are you confident that Tremors are being caused due to the medicines, your mother is taking?
Waiting for your follow-up.

Thanks very much for your detailed response:
Background:
My mother had a fall last Friday, 3/07/15. She was prescribed with Stugeron by a neighborhood doctor. Along with this a general physician changed the dosage of Synodopa from (0.5 0.5 0.5) to ( 1 0 1).
It is since this episode of a fall, combined with the change to Stugeron and change in dosage of syndopa that this has started happening.
So under advice of the general physician we went to a neurologist who explained that Syndopa is active for 6 or 7 hours and an afternoon dose will be essential for my mother who has rigidity of the muscles. So from today the dosage of syndopa has been changed to Syndopa plus (1 1 1), Syndopa CR ( 0 0 0.5) and Selgin (1 0 0 )
My worry is that she needs either vertin/stematil or stugeron for her Menier's problem. And if one of these, specially stugeron is supressing the absorption of Syndopa.
thanks again for your help.
Best Regards XXXXXXX
Stugeron and Stemetil should be stopped.
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being in follow-up.
Stugeron does not suppress the absorption of Syndopa but it is known to worsen Parkinsonism(and postural tremors) in some clinical studies by other mechanisms(central brain mechanisms).
So,that way,Stemetil and Stugeron should be stopped.
Hope that I have answered your query. If you have some further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up else please close the thread, rate it and write a review as your rating will be of help to me.
