Brief Answer:
Considerations

Detailed Answer:
hello and thank you for sending the question.

Since the stool softeners do not seem to be helping at this point there are a couple of other options.

You might try an Enema that you can obtain over-the-counter at the pharmacy(i.e. PC Enema). This will help to soften the stool directly so that he can clear his bowels more efficiently.

Another option would be to use a rectal suppository stool softener which can also be obtained over-the-counter.

I think the enema might be a better idea and might provide the quickest level of relief for him. Please talk to the pharmacist about this as well.

Thank you again for sending the question.

Sincerely,

Dr. Galamaga
