Suggest Remedy For Cough When On Ramipril

Question: after having a heart attack I was put on ramipril 3.75 mg daily they gave me a cough so I saw my GP who gave me irbesartan 75 mg to replace them. the hospital told me I was taking ramapril to protect my heart would this replacment do the same ?
