Hi Doc thanks kindly for the recent advice. You recently prescribed me with angular cheilitis and that problem almost cleared up straight away. I suddenly have a new condition which to me is obviously cold sores on my bottom lip. 2 large blisters appeared out of the blue even though I haven't had any physical contact with anyone. My flatmate was sporting a sore last week so I have probably picked it up from kitchen utensils. I have regularly had blood tests in the past and have never been diagnosed with this condition. What foods should I know take and also avoid to keep this sore from reappearing. I work in the hospitality industry and I am fearful this sore will compromise my job and repel customers. My doctor gave me a prescription for Valtrex and plan to take them on a regular basis as a preventative measure . Could taking Valtrex on a regular basis be harmful and if not how often would you suggest I take them to ensure that I am never contagious
Brief Answer:
Regular dosing of valacyclovir cause side effects.
Detailed Answer:
For recurrent episodes dosing should begin as early as possible.
For recurrent episodes of herpes simplex, this should ideally be immediately upon appearance of the first symptoms.
Valtrex( Valacyclovir) can prevent lesion development when taken at the first signs and symptoms.
Take Valtrex exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take the medication in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor.
Valacyclovir could cause gastric discomfort, joint pains and also affect kidney function. Consult your doctor on regular basis for evaluation of the same.
Avoid letting infected areas come into contact with other people.
Avoid touching an infected area and then touching your eyes.
Wash your hands frequently to prevent passing the infection to others.
Wish you a good health.
