Posted on Mon, 13 Apr 2015
Question: Hello Doctor. We had done complete blood test for my 3.2 yrs old son. Suggested by a speech therapist since we had consulted the Dr since we felt his speech was delayed. He is talking only one syllable words. ( few of them ). However we found variation in the Throglobulin antibody serum alone which was 5.38 ( upto 4.11). All the other values related to Thyroid was normal. He showed insufficiency in vitamin D also. Is this something to be worried as a parent. Is medication really needed for the kid because he is too young.

Brief Answer:
Need more information please

Detailed Answer:
Hi....

1. Vitamin D insufficiency is not related to speech delay.

2. Regarding Thyroglobulin levels - the serum TSH concentration is such a powerful modulator of the serum Thyroglobulin level that it is usually necessary to know the TSH status of the patient before assessing the significance of any serum Thyroglobulin measurement.

3. But as you quote that all other thyroid related values are normal, I don't think you should worry about it.

4. Your son needs - follow up of thyroid tests in 3 months and most importantly speech therapy.

Hi...

1. This is normal thyroid function tests. Nothing to worry about.
