Suggest Remedy For Extremely Swollen And Itchy Knees

Question: My wife's knees are extremly swollen and itchy. This was a sudden onset within an hour. What could be the problem? She shows no signs of an insect bite

I appreciate your concern

There are tow likely possibilities, contact dermatitis i.e associated with clothing or any other that came into contact with the knees to which your wife responded with the swollen and itchy knees bilaterally. Insect bite is the other possibility. Clean the knees and look for evidence of insect bite. Remove the clothing and ask her to take a bath. Clean the area with povidone antiseptic and apply calamine lotion on both the knee surfaces. Antihistamines like Benadryl or hydroxyzine or cetirizine can be taken to see for resolution of inflammation. If the swelling increases then you should consult a doctor who may advise ultrasound of the knee , blood counts and coagulation profile to look for other possibilities.
