Question: Hello - my son is 1 year old and has been having the following symptoms alternatively over the last 10 days (on and off):
1- Wet cough, running nose & chest congestion
2- Slight fever (upto 101 F)
3- Body weakness

We tried Novamox, Paracetamol and Tminic so far. The symptoms get better upon taking the medicine, but re-appear within a few days. Can you please suggest what may be the reason?

Brief Answer:
Some children are more prone to catching cold. Tonsils need to be checked.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Such ailments are caused due to viral infections. Some children are more prone to such infections. Often it is associated with tonsillar enlargement. If the tonsils are inflamed and infected, and if the recurrence of the cough and cold are very frequent, surgery may be required to remove the tonsils. I would insist that you visit a doctor and get his tonsils checked.

Apart from the tonsils, there is not much to be done about the recurrence of cough and cold. Generally the propensity comes down with age.

Hope that helps.
