Suggest Remedy For Headaches When On Oxybutynin Tablet
Question: Is it okay to cut an oxybutynin tablet 5mg in half and take a half dose twice a day? I am allergic to lots of pills and seem to get a headache on a whole dose. I have only just started the tablet last night. YYYY@YYYY
Brief Answer:
depends on the type of tablet.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HealthcareMagic.
I can understand your concern.
It depends on what kind of tablet you are using.
If you're taking oxybutynin extended-release tablets, you CANNOT cut the tablet in half. The extended release form is designed to release the medication slowly and if the pill is broken in two you will risk dosing yourself with too much of the drug at one time.
If you're using the regular preparation of the tablet, you can cut the pills in half and take it twice a day.
Hope this answers your query satisfactorily.

Thank you. It is the ordinary tablet, blue in colour and has the indent in the middle. One tablet twice a day was prescribed for me. I shall take half twice a day and increase it to a whole after a few days. Does that sound reasonable?
Brief Answer:
can increase the dose gradually.
Detailed Answer:
Absolutely okay.
The indentation in the middle suggests that it can be broken into half.
You can cut the tablet into half and increase the dose gradually.
It would be better if you share this with your treating doctor as well.
I wish you well.
Thanks.
