Question: Hi Doctor,
I got my third molar extraction done, last week. It was normal until day before yesterday, when i started to feel acute pain in my gums. My doctor asked me to take seradic-p and clavam but these medicines are not helping me much. There is now a swelling and pain in gums. What should i do?

Brief Answer:
It could be dry socket or some remaining root

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for writing in.

Acute pain could be due to improper healing & it could be dry socket. It could be due to poor clot formation or smoking after extraction. In such case you should take alvogyl dressing.
Second reason could be some remaining root stump.

Unfortunately without an opportunity to physically examine the affected area I am unable to differentiate the two. Therefore I recommend you get back to your dentist to rule out exact cause & get it treated accordingly.

Meanwhile start with a course of analgesic & antibiotic as you are already on.

Hope I answered your query

Wishing you good health

Hi Doc,

Can you suggest some medication? My existing meds are not helping me reduce the pain.

Brief Answer:
Diclo-para-serratio combination

Detailed Answer:
You may take diclofenac + paracetamol + serratiopeptidase combination pills along with amoxicillin + clavulanate combination drugs. You can ask your local doctor about these / similar combinations.
