Suggest Remedy For Pain And Inflammation In Hip, Neck And Shoulders
Question: I am a 60 year old male, in good shape, and very active (tennis professional). In addition to teaching, I play usually 2 times a week, play golf 2 times a week, and go to the gym 2 times a week. Around Labor Day, out of nowhere, I started to get a great deal of inflammation and pain in my shoulders, neck, hips, and hamstrings. I went to a Dr and was checked for Lupus, Lyme's, and Rheumetoid Arthritis. All Negative. I was put on a 6 day course of Methylprednisolone and it worked great. Unfortunately, when it was done, the inflammation came right back. I can manage it with about 4 Advil daily, but I haven't found the cause. Again, the onset was extremely sudden and significant. If I don't take Advil, it's like I went from 59 years old to 80, overnight. Any ideas?

Hi there.
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
Thanks for the query.
Do you have pain that radiates from the back of the shoulder.?
Avoid lifting weights and lifting arm overhead.
Apply hot water bag to the painful regions. Get an Xray and then MRI if your shoulder to find out exactly what it is. Take Tablet Ibuprofen 400mg twice a day for 5 days after meals.
This could be Impingement syndrome and possible Rotator cuff disorders.
An MRI shoulder wo help solve the problem.
Kindly reply to my queries for me to be in a better position to help you.

Did you read the entire question? I have inflammation in both shoulders, neck, both hips, and both hamstrings...not just one shoulder. It all happened suddenly, and not after any particular event, literally overnight. It is much more all-encompassing than just my shoulder. When I get up in the morning, I can hardly move. After 3 or 4 Advils, I can function pretty normally. When I was put on the Methylprednisolone I was fine. When I finished the course, the inflammation started again. I am a tennis professional and have dealt with rotator cuff and impingement issues before. This is something else that is effecting me in multiple areas. It is not Lupus, Lyme's, or Rheumatoid Athritis. All tested negative. Again, what else could it be? Thank you.

No, I have no real stiffness in back or pelvis. It seems to be the muscles and tendons in my shoulders, neck, hips, and hamstrings. My reaction to the steroid was extremely positive, and with Advil as well. Without anything, however, the situation is really bad. The thing that is so hard to understand is that it came on out of nowhere. All summer I led my normal active, athletic life and one day I woke up feeling like this. What is ankylosing spondylitis?
