Suggest Remedy For Pain When Having Hip Osteoarthritis
taking Mobic, Tramadol
Has regular hip cortisone injections Q3-4 months
Has an injection scheduled in 4 days thus is not allowed to take the Mobic
Is in serous pain - doesn't tolerate Codeine well.
What medications can she take during the next 4 days to live with the pain before her injection?
What medications are available to a young adult for osteoarthritis?
I imagine the long term effects of these medications and injections are more severe than a hip replacement - what is your opinion?
NSAIDS

Hello
Thanks for the query
I understand how untolerable pain of the osteoarthritis can be. Tramadol is a wonderful and a strong pain killer, it can be taken upto twice a day.
Apart from Tramadol, these are the option
1. Diclofenac sustain release. It is known as the most potent painkiller, it is well tolerated with taken after food. It is can be taken upto twice a day not more than 3 days
2. Combination drugs like Combiflam which contains Brufen and Paracetamol can also help.
3. Plain Paracetamol can be given three times a day for 4 days
4. Ketodolac is also a good option, it is weaker than Diclofenac however it is still a good drug and more gastric friendly than diclo
If the joint pain is extremely severe then hip replacement is a better option than steroidal injection.
I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please do get back
Regards
It's been 2 hours since my question of if my daughter should go to urgent care. I'm sorry if I missed your answer. She actually did go to the Urgent care and the doctor gave her a shot of Torodol. I'm not sure if it is helping yet, but she did get some medication.
What should she do this week - her cortisone injection is this Friday and it is Monday where she lives - if it hurts at a "hip migraine" level again?
Thank you soo very much!

Hello
Thanks for getting back, I am sorry for the short delay in my reply. I just got back from the hospital.
If you had gone to the emergency you could have asked for the list of drugs I had listed for you. It would have helped you till the cortisone injection. I am happy she received a shot of Tramadol, she must be comfortable now. Cold packs over the area can also be of help
I am once again sorry for the delay.
Regards
Thanks you so much! !

Hello
Thanks for getting back with such kind words, I understand your impatience. I have been taught by my professors that in this day and age it is important that a patient is pain free since we have so many medications to treat pain. I am sure my list of pain medicines will be helpful for now and for the future
