Question: Query for Dr. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX

I am doing find with the bruising I thought it was probably my age.

I do have another question. I have dermatitis (seboria (msp)) and have had it for two years believe me some days it drives me crazy. I have had one cortisone shot this past summer and it did ease the itching on my head for about two weeks. I have prescription medicine Clobetal Propionate Foam 0.05% it helps some but in two days I am suffering again. I have used Selson Blue Medicated shampoo and about ever other dandruff shampoo on the market. NOTHING WORKS!

I heard stress is one cause of this and I am a worry wart. Worry about everything all the time, have no real reason just do. I am retired and l have a good life. We live in XXXXXXX in the summer and in Florida in the winter. My family is in XXXXXXX and I do miss them.

I just wonder besides stress what causes this? I would think with something as common as the dermatitis is that there is more that could be done.

Thank you,
doctor

Brief Answer:
Stress precipitates and perpetuates Seborrheic dermatitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for writing back to me.

I am really glad to know that my answer was useful for you and you are doing well with bruising complaints.

Regarding seborrheic dermatitis you are right that stress is prominent factor in precipatating and perpetuatiing this skin disorder but there are other factosr that increase the risk.
The most prominent among is cold and dry whether. Because of this factor it is more common in temperate climate.

The second factor is a kind of yeast which infects our skin leading to dermatitis.

Above these factors our genes are most responsible which can not be controlled by current medical science.

I hope this helps you.

Brief Answer:
It is treatable but not curable

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for reverting back to me.

Seborrheic dermatitis is generally treatable as symptoms can be managed with variety of medications including steroids and antifungals.

In majority of cases it does not get complete cure and treatment remains part and parcel of life for those affected with S dermatitis.

In my opinion if you are not getting complete response there is need to either increase the dose of current medication or they can be changed to another alternative. This simple measure can help you to the great extent.

Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
