Suggest Remedy For Pneumonia

I recently had a very bad car accident. it was a head on collision with both of us going around 50 to 55 miles per hour. My air bag did deploy. After my face hit the airbag it broke, so with the force that the airbag pushed me back, my chest hit the steering wheel. I broke 7 ribs 4 on the right and 3 on the left. and they said I ok my sternum even though it feels broken. more so lately, the popping is very intense. So I have two questions, the first l e of a very bad cold at the time of my accident. After a lot of back and forth with the drs at the hospital they finally agreed to doing s chest x-Ray. They found both of my lungs are partially collapsed towards the bottom.
. . They started me on an antibiotic which I took 1 a day for ten days. I'm now done with the antibiotics, however I just noticed that today I started coughing up dark green phlegm. Could this be pneumonia and should I go to urgent care to be looked at? Plus could the popping be related to the phlegm I'm now coughing up?
Yes, possibility of pneumonia is more in your case.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, possibility of pneumonia is more in your case.
You had bilateral lower zone collapse due to blunt chest trauma. And in collapse lung, secretions tend to accumulate and this further cause infection by bacteria.
And greenish phlegm is seen commonly with bacterial lung infection.
So possibility of lung Infection in collapsed part is more in your case.
In my opinion, you should consult pulmonologist and get done clinical examination of respiratory system, repeat chest x ray and sputum culture and sensitivity report.
Culture will identify the causative organism and sensitivity report will guide about appropriate effective antibiotic treatment.
Chest physiotherapy and deep breathing exercises are also useful.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
