Suggest Remedy For Pressure In Head Along With Tingling Sensation

default
Posted on Mon, 9 Feb 2015
Question: Hello, I have been having very weird symptoms that are causing me anxiety or are induced by anxiety. I have had anxiety my whole life but the symptoms I am having seem to be some kind of disease. My biggest complaint is pressure in my head, tingling sensations, and also a very hard to explain "sticky" feeling in my head. If I move my head it will release the pressure and make kind of a creak noise. It is very strange. I am having cognitive issues and sometimes it is literally hard for me to think. I am not clear headed because all I can think about are the strange feelings in my head. I have also been having these attacks where I also have burning in my head which leads to anxiety/feeling like I am dying. I get a tightness in my chest and when I get up to get a drink of water, I start to have a trembling attack. I am also having pain in my limbs (may also be due to having a very physical job). One last complaint is, my veins in my hands have been bulging recently when I have them down in a resting motion. This seems to be constant lately and is worrying me. I started to notice it more because my hands were hurting and when I looked at them I could see every vein in them. Please help!

Brief Answer:
Could be an anxiety disorder

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query.
I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.
From what you have stated it appears that you are having an Anxiety disorder. Anxiety can occur with regular stress and it can also occur biologically without any stress as well. You need proper treatment for the same. There are various effective therapies for depression like paroxetine, venlafaxine, bupropion, mirtazapine or escitalopram and they are all very effective and mostly safe. You may also require some benzodiazepines like clonazepam or lorazepam for a short period like 2-3 weeks to reduce the anxiety and help with your sleep.
If you are averse to the drug therapies then there is also an option of cognitive behavioural therapy. This therapy is taken by either a psychologist or a psychiatrist in which the therapist identifies impaired cognitions (Thoughts) and try to correct them. They are 15-20 min weekly session and there should be around 8-10 sessions to help you with your illness.

Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
If not, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer for me, so that I get a good feedback.

I think you are right and this does confirm that I need to seek help. It is calming to know that it may just be anxiety and not a serious health issue! I know the bulging of my veins in hands may be a separate issue but could you address this for me as well. It has seemed to come on suddenly and I am worried about having some sort of vascular issue. What are your thoughts?

Brief Answer:
Its may not be a concern

Detailed Answer:
Hello
The bulging of the veins may be just a part of anxiety where in we become extra critical of the body changes.
If you still want to be cautious, then it would be wise to get your blood pressure examined and if possible to get a heart echocardiography done. The bulging veins occur due to back flow pressure and a properly conducting heart will not let this happen.
Do meet your dcotor and get these tests done. But nothing to worry at this stage, and get an appointment from a doctor and get your anxiety treated.

I do think I will address the bulging veins in hands with my Dr. as well. I do worry about a vascular issue as I have had some problems with chest pains as well. I am doing research in the medications you had mentioned and I wanted to tell you that I have taken Paxil before. This is actually the only anti-depresent that I have followed through with taking on a regular basis. I took it for 1-2 months and did start to notice some weight gain. The reason why I stopped taking it was because one day at work I had this weird sensation that all the sudden I was overly happy, chatty, and a co-worker had noticed my pupils were enlarged. I figured it must have been the medication and that it was finally working. I quit taking it that same day because my co-worker thought I was on some kind of drug. Is that normal and do you think I should have continued to take it and try it again? Or would it be wise to try another?

Brief Answer:
Could be a bipolar disorder

Detailed Answer:
Hello
If you have had a hypomania like episode while you are on paxil then it suggests that there was a switch and it means you have a diagnosis of Bipolar Mood Disorder. Bipolar Mood Disorder patients can frequently have anxiety episodes. This will require you to take mood stabilizers like divalproex sodium or lithium as well.
Do meet your doctor and get these medicines prescribed.
Kind regards
