Posted on Mon, 13 Jul 2015
Question: Hello I was bitten by a stray dog last night around 2010 hrs. I have since washed the wound twice with soap and water and cleaned with Dettol and taken rabipur and tetnus injections. However the bleeding has not stopped completely . when I try to walk it starts bleeding again, not too much just a few drops.
1. I was given one injection in arm and second in buttocks. is it okie ?
2. Is the bleeding not stopping a bad sign and should I be worried?

Brief Answer:
Apply local bandage

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
Hi, I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern.
The treatment given to you is appropriate and standard. You need to complete the course of vaccination.
Continuous bleeding from the wound signifies that either the wound is deep, or you might be having some bleeding disorder.
In my opinion, you should get a dressing done over the wound and if required, your doctor would stitch the affected area.
You should apply local antibiotic cream like Soframycin over the affected area.
Now, following are your answers:
1. This is the ideal method to give two different injections at two different sites.
2. Get dressing done, if the cut is deep, get stitches. If bleeding persists, you should get evaluated for bleeding disorders by getting Complete blood count, PT/INR, BT/CT. This is not at all a sign related to rabies prognosis.
This is my personal opinion based on details available here. If you still have any other query, you may please ask me.
Stay Healthy.
