Question: hi my name is XXXXXXX
i have been getting migraines morning to night everyday since i was a child and now am so sick and still have them. i just took a test measuring my chromogranin A at it was high 637. i think i may have pheochromocytoma or paraganglioma. most docs have given up on me but have never tested me for this. should i be worried about the high level and what kinda specialty doc should i see. also is there a correlation between the chromogranin a and the constant migraines. im in sooo much pain i need an answer!

Brief Answer:
Chromogranin

Detailed Answer:
I am very sorry to note your painful condition.

There is no known established link between chromogranin A and migraine.

Chromogranin A can be elevated in many conditions though. It is best used for monitoring in Carcinoids. However, it is not recommended to be used for it's diagnosis. A good screening test for Carcinoid would be
24 hour urine for 5- HIAA

Chromogranin A can be raised in pheochromocytoma too but again it is not the recommended way to screen for this condition.

Plasma free metanephrines is a good way to start. This is a random blood test that does not require fasting and can be done at any time of the day or night.

Migraines are best handled by neurologists.

If any of the above tests are positive, you will be best served by seeing an Endocrinologist in-person for further evaluation.
