Posted on Wed, 22 Apr 2015
Question: My grandmother aged 83 was experienced dizziness 2 days back. The doctor told it was due to low BP. She used to take Amcard 5 mg from many years. The doctor now suspected that could also ve tge reason for low BP and advised to take the same tablet but of 2.5mg.

She also feels restless and she is experiencing drowsiness all the time and feels tired.

She is not diabetic and dont have any other problems.

There has not been any change in food habits.

Please advise what could be the issue and also advise what foods to be taken and which to ve avoided

Detailed Answer:
HI

Greeting from Dr. Divakara.P
First of all thanks for choosing Healthcaremagic for posting your query.

There are many causes for Dizziness, from simple and easily treatable causes to serious causes .

Simple causes are :

1. Abnormalities in BP: Both high and low BP can cause dizziness.
2. Abnormalities in Blood sugars: Both high and low Blood sugars can cause dizziness.

3. Abnormalities in blood sodium levels.
4. Low Hemoglobin ( Anemia )
5. Inner Ear problems .

Some serious problems are :

1. Heart Problems
2: Brain problem

You told your grandmother's blood pressure was low , I need to know what was the reading at that time and what is the blood pressure now? Kindly let me know this.

If her Blood pressure is normal normal then she needs to undergo the following tests and revert back.

Hemogobin , Serum Sodium levels, Serum TSH , Serum Vitamin B12 levels checked and an ECG.

There is no special dietary advice , she can eat anything but in general due to her BP she has to take low salt diet.

Also I would recommend to start a calcium supplementation for her.

Hope you find this information useful .
