Question: my email address is YYYY@YYYY
I am suffering Diverticulitous at the moment, for the last 3 days and it is quite painful. I have had it in the past but not for the last 2 years. At one time they removed part of my colon. What do you suggest, and preferably not antibiotics as I am allergic to many.

Brief Answer:
Avoid constipation, high fiber diet

Detailed Answer:
Welcome.
I have gone through your query.
The best way to treat diverticulosis is to avoid constipation.
I would suggest you include fruits, vegetables, beans, and whole grains in your diet each day. These foods are high in fiber. Drink plenty of fluids, enough so that your urine is light yellow or clear like water. Get some exercise every day, which will facilitate the bowel movements. You can consult your doctor regarding the use of fiber supplement, such as Citrucel or Metamucil.
Presently to address the pain you can take, over the counter analgesic like paracetamol, twice daily after food, for two days, and if pain persists after these you have to see consultant doctor.
This provisional advice provided by me is based entirely on the input provided to me. I would suggest examination by the doctor.

Hope this helps.
Take care.
