I have just passed a long 4-5" piece of green stringy stool, I've had some problems lately with my stools and have been taking metamucil daily. I have had incidents the last month with small amount of blood, doctor thinks a tear and I'm using a cream for that. I also have had lower right back pain the last few days.

Hello,

Green stools may be due to taking green leafy vegetables or artificial food colors. Gallbladder and liver problems may present like this. Blood in stool and pain during defecation may be due to fissure or fistulas or hemorrhoids.

Until examination is done, it is difficult to say what it is. Take high fiber diet with regular exercise and yoga. If symptoms not improved, then please consult your doctor so that he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
