Suggest Remedy For Sharp Pain In Throat After Choking On Food

Question: Hi there 8 weeks ago i chocked on a sandwich and the following day woke up with what felt like a very small sharp peanut stuck down my throat (half way down just to the left of what i think is thyroid) went to doctors and she reffered to ENT and prescribed. difflam, then few days ago it started to really sting when i eat and drink like the peanut felt more like an open wound when eating and more sharp peanut when just swolling, went back to doctor but was just told not to worry wait for ENT, now it hasnt changed since it feels very sharp and i get sharp pains in the area enough to wake me at night i have been taking 4 teaspoons of 10+ manuka honey for last 2 weeks but nothing is helping now i am scared that maybe this is a throat cancer, what are the possibillities of this? are there any other more possible explanations that are more likely please? will i have to have camera up nose by ENT or can the put thru straight down throat ?

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having throat pain.

Based on your clinical details, it appears to be impacted foreign body (sandwich) or non healing ulcer secondary to forecful swallowing of foreign body.

I suggest you to re consult ent surgeon and get laryngoscopy to see the exact level of impaction and if necessary, removal. You may require antibiotics to prevent abscess (pus) formation.

Mean time, stop honey, take sucralfate oral syrup (over the counter carafate) 2tea spoons twice daily.

Do not worry, laryngoscopy procedure is painless, done under surface anesthesia.

i have a mass anxiety of medical procedures and am unsure if i can cope with it put thru my nose, could it be done thru throat only? why stop the honey? will this eventually go on its own? should i still be as concerned as i am over possible throat cancer as this is my main fear. thankyou.

Answers and solutions for your queries.

1. This laryngoscopy procedure (videoendoscopy of larynx) done through throat. can be done even in children under anesthetic spray. So please do not worry about it. You should relax and anticipate how it will be so that on the final day it will less difficult that it seems to be.

2. Honey is helpful in initial stages of sore throat of bacterial or viral origin, but not in suspected foreign body imp action or trauma.

3. Do not worry, its not a cancer. As there are no associated symptoms like change of voice, lymph node enlargement or loss of weight.

4. In case of suspicion, do not wait for things to happen. Kindly go ahead for the laryngoscopy.
