Suggest Remedy For Stiffness And Pain In The Arm After Injury
Yesterday (1 day ago), I injured my hand(Left). I normally would not worry but been a manual wheelchair user and sign language interpreter they are rather precious. I was trying to access a door, that turned out way too narrow and managed to wrap my knuckles around the door in-between my wheelchair rim and the door and jarring my wrist.
It was really red and difficult to move afterwards, today it looks like bruising is slowly developing and there is some swelling.
My hand/ wrist is stiff. I have reduced extension and flexion of my wrist more because of pain and stiffness, making a fist increases pain as does gripping or applying pressure. I can rotate my wrist there is a little more clunking than usual and generally a lot less flexibility.
The pain is in my wrist and knuckle area. Additionally when I extend my hand I get a tremor.
I am just looking for some general advice especially due to a general lack of sensation in my hands/feet anyway and needing my hands to mobilise with as well as for work. Would I be best seeking medical advice e.g. x-ray or shall I rest, ice, NSAIDs for several days?
Medical Hx:
Dysautonomia
Congenital Birth Deformity (lower Limbs)
Chronic Pain
Asthma
Migraine
Neuropathy - specifically lack of sensation in feet, legs, hands and fingers
Additionally right wrist - Dorsal ligament reconstruction
Medications - Numerous related include, Butrans, Piroxicam Gel, Lidocaine Patches,
give it some days with rest ,ice and ibuprofen.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I read carefully your query and understand your concern.
The pain ,stiffness ,swelling ,reduced mobility are expected after an injury.
It seems that you have only soft tissue injury.
Since the injury happened only yesterday ,you need to give it some days move.
Try to rest the hand as much as you can, apply cold compresses to decrease the inflammation and swelling.
Take Ibuprofen for the pain.
If the symptoms doesn't seem to improve in some days or it they get worse, you may need to get it examined and get an X-ray done to exclude any possible injury of bones.
Hope it helps.
Let me know if you have any other question or doubt to clarify.I will be happy to help.
I wish you a quick and complete recovery,
Kind regards,
Dr.Rovena Murati
