Suggest Remedy For Tenderness On Scalp Accompanied By Head Pain
Question: HELLO! I am recovering from a severe cold since about 12/22/24. During this time, I have had a very tender scalp accompanied by head pain as well. I have been having headaches at night when I go to bed. My left eye had been feeling a little weird. There was a little pain in this eye as well as weakness. I since have seen a walk-in clinic doctor as well as my personal doctor. It was concluded that I had a bacterial infection. I was put on antibiotics and sent home. My Pcp further thought that the head pain was caused by the head congestion. She suggested sudafed. However, my scalp is still very tender and the headaches are still there, however, not as severe. What could be causing these symptoms and should I be concerned about stroke?

1)Occipital neuralgia-it could be due to tight neck muscles ,infection or blood vessel inflammation causing scalp and eye pain.You can go for an MRI head to look for any pathology.
2)Tension headaches-This could be another reason,causing scalp pain and headache.You can use muscle relaxant to get some relief but going for an MRI would be the best option to rule out any major cause.
Meanwhile you can;
Apply heat to the neck
Avoid stress
Take over the counter pain medication if it is too much.

Occipital neuralgia is a neurological condition in which the nerves which passes to your neck from the spinal cord is inflammed or injured.
It can occur spontaneously, or as the result of a pinched nerve root in the neck (from arthritis, for example), or as the result of prior injury or surgery to the scalp or skull. Sometimes tight muscles at the back of the head can entrap the nerves.
