Question: My 81 yr. old mother is having feelings of vibrations throughout her body. She has a bed that can vibrate and at first thought it was her bed but the bed was not on. I am very concerned. It has been going on all day today and last night.

Brief Answer:
More details necessary

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for asking.
I am Dr. Prakash HM and I will be answering your query.

Based on symptoms and query, my opinion is as follows:

Whole body vibration is rather uncommon. Commonly it is due to medication side effects or withdrawal symptoms.

I will require more history for further opinion:

1. Was she recently started on any medications or any medications stopped recently (since past two weeks)? Do look into it and let me know.

2. Why is she using a bed that can vibrate? Residual vibrations can be present for short time. However this long, requires further investigations. I need to know why she is on a bed, which can vibrate?

3. Does she suffer from diabetes? Hypertension? any chronic diseases?

4. Does she have any fever? Is she able to walk? Is it like shivering? Does she require blankets to cover her?

5. Is vibration present all the time? continuously? did it start at any specific location? Does it increase with activity like standing or eating food etc?

6. Is she on Vit B12 therapy? if not start her immediately. If possible, a complete hemogram may be done to evaluate for anemia or infection.

Do get back with the answers. As, it is a short episode, at present I am not thinking of any peripheral neuropathy or endocrine disorder.

Do get back with list of medications and other answers to queries above.

Any further queries, happy to help again.
