If the test turns out to be reactive, then the second line test called western blot test needs to be done.
Both these tests are done on blood sample.
The ELISA test is done free at ICTC centres and these centres are attached to all government hospitals.
You can even the test for HIV at any accredited laboratory, however, in that case it will not be free.
In case the ELISA turns out to be negative, you can get the test repeated after a period of 3 months.
The transmission of HIV virus is through sexual route, infected blood products and vertical transmission from mother to child.
Barrier methods prevent the transmission of HIV infection and other sexually transmitted diseases.
