Question: About four years ago i had an ectopic pregnancy. I have just found out i am pregnant again and they have been checking my hcg levels regularly. Last thursday they were only at 32. This monday i went again and they had only raised to 42. Needless to say the doctor called me in to the office to tell me he believes i will miscarry soon. He told me to get my levels chexked wednesday, yesterday, and that he expecta them to just slowly creep up and that it would probably be best to terminate the pregnancy with the shots. Well results came in yestetday and my levels had shot up to 104 since Monday. My doctor decidedto hild of on terminating and continue to monitor my levels to make sure they continue to rise like that. My question for you is so tou believe i have a chance of this being a successful pregnancy or abother ectopic as it was so many years ago. I have had two successful pregnancies before my first ectopic a few years ago and really just want to kbow what ny chances are.

Brief Answer: DO ONE TVS SCAN TO CONFIRM HEALTHY PREGNANCY. Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for writing to us. The first thing, I suggest you to undergo one Trans Vaginal Ultrasound scan (TVS) around 5 to 6 weeks to check viability of fetus including gestational sac, fetal pole and heart beat. It will be more reliable, accurate & confirmatory test to know the nature of conception whether tubal (ectopic) or intrauterine. Secondly, only blood for beta-hCG test will NOT confirm whether you carry a healthy pregnancy or not and it CAN'T rule out ectopic pregnancy without proper clinical signs (like abdominal pain or vaginal bleeding). Where NO intrauterine pregnancy is seen on ultrasound, measuring beta-hCG levels may aid in the diagnosis. However, very LOW rise of beta-hCG level may indicate possible miscarriage in future. Lastly, I suggest you to consult with your Gynecologist following TVS scan and repeat blood beta-hCG for next level management. Hope, it will be helpful for your information. Kindly, close the discussion, if you don't have any other query. Wish your good health and take care yourself.
