Suggest The Diet For A Person With Diabetes

DETAILED BELOW
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing to us.
Please do provide me more details.. like for whom do you wish to enquire about the diet ?
is it a male or female ? Pregnant or non pregnant ?
If pregnant, then how many weeks, when was diabetes diagnosed , severity of the condition etc.
These details would help me to guide you better.
In general for diabetics, weight loss should be aimed at, if the patient is overweight.
Even 5 - 10 % reduction in body fat would lead to improvement in blood sugars and diabetic profile.
A basic diabetic diet should be high in daily nutrients , low on fat, and moderate in protein and carbohydrates.
Carbohydrates dont need to be eliminated, just eat smart carbs. Avoid refined, processed carbohydrates like white bread, rice, pasta , maida, soda, snacks, chips, soda, ice creams, burgers, pizzas etc.
Stick to complex carbs that are high fibre like whole wheat , brown rice, XXXXXXX multigrains, oat, barley. These are digested slowly, leading to sustained levels of insulin and blood glucose in the body.
Instead of 2 or 3 big meals a day, break up your calorie intake into multiple small meals. Eat every 2 - 3 hours.
You can have as many vegetables and fruits as you wish.
Avoid potatoes , sweet potatoes, white rice, bananas, mangoes and foods which are overtly sweet.
Do not take excess salt or sugar in your diet.
Have plenty of yoghurt, water, soups, buttermilk etc.
Never skip breakfast.
Use minimum cooking oil, use healthy oils like olive oil, safflower oil.
Stick to skimmed milk for consumption.
As snacks, use curd, nuts, chana, grilled fish or chicken.
Avoid frying , use methods like roasting or baking or steaming for cooking food.
Exercise atleast 30 minutes daily 5 times a week.
Hope this helped you.
Please feel free to write back with more details for further clarifications.
All the best.
