Suggest The Ideal Dosage For Effexor Taken For Depression
Question: Currently on 30mg Abilify and now experiencing 1 month in suicidal thought and high risk of carrying out plan.
also been taking effexor-xr 337.5mg for over 1 year is what is the best mg modification if possible recommended for to extinguish suicidal behaviour at this serious stage. Is it possible to modify dose of efferor -xr for to stop the threat of killing myself with another trail introduced anti - depressant or even may take more effector - xr. My life is at risk but Abilify has made me lose 25kg of body fat after stopping zyprexa 40mg for increase heart rate. To me and the professional doctors here in aus they seem to have no idea. They did not even tell me that suicidel thought and actions could be a possible side effect when they know i have it but will not even validate it to me at this serious point of risk to myself. I have no faith in the pyhic doctors here at all i seem to know more maybe or not. really worried about this as have had paranoid skits from age of 18. Please find solution for me somehow which just does not seem possible at this serious point. Thank you. paranoid skits is about to destry me.

Thanks for writing to us. I can understand your concern.
Effexor can cause side effect of suicidal thoughts. You are taking it since long. However just before 1 month you were switched from zyprexa to abilify and suicidal thoughts started. It suggests some sort of side effect is there. Effexor increases abilify level by drug interaction.
Considering your diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia I recommend reduction in dose of effexor.
Lithium is the only drug with proven anti suicidal effects. At this point I recommend it in your case.
Other option is ECT - electro convulsive therapy. It is very safe and specifically no side effects like those of drugs. If you do not want to medicate yourself much it is also good option to deal with your suicidal behavior.
At any point of time I request you not to act on your suicidal thoughts. You can always go to ER for severe problem and get admitted for help. You can be treated.

In crisis circumstance obviously get to ED. However what is the most important drug to take Abilify 1 30mg tablet or effexor-xr Have 150mg tablets and 37.5mg tablets as alternative survival dose.

You should continue abilify in same dose you are taking. You can reduce effexor to 225 mg(150+37.5+37.5) dose for 2 days until you can contact your treating doctor. Effexor cannot be stopped or reduced much suddenly as it gives withdrawal symptoms.
