Suggest Treatment For GERD And Acid Reflux
Question: Hi, my wife has symptoms of esophagitis. Was rushed in to Seven Oaks a few weeks ago, and released.
She was diagnosed with Gerd, and acid reflux by our doctor whom is now off on sick leave. Would you have the name of a gastroenterologist specialist around the Garden City area that I can call to get an appointment, or do I need a referral. She has been living on Boost and Gerber pear and strawberry compote baby food since her release, and having trouble with that. Night time is the worst with coughing, gagging and at time vomiting, Can you help us out. TksXXXXX

Brief Answer:
You need a referral
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Gastroenterologist will not take direct patients generally. They need referral from GP's/Internal Medicine.
GERD is simple to treat for doctors however it needs a lot of patient participation to get over the horrible symptoms. I suggest you to visit any GP/Internal Medicine doctor first at Seven Oaks. He can help her.
Besides these she should try to elevate the headend of the bed so that the reflux does not reach the larynx that stimulates night time cough. She should complete the meal at least 3 hours before going to bed. She should have soft and bland diet. She should not wear very loose garments all through the day and night.
Hope this helps

Tks. for the info. Her symtoms have progressed to Esophagitis. Until I can get her to a doctor for a referral, is there a special food that I can feed her with , other than Boost, as she is getting weaker, and unable to travel at this point.
Tks.
