
Suggest Treatment For GERD And Hiatal Hernia

Question: Since being diagnosed (may 26) with acid reflux and small hiata hernia and esophagus needs to heal it's not too bad -- anxiety has been worse and making symptoms worse. On Prilosec for 3 weeks So my esophagus heals. . I was afraid do eat much at all. I don't like taking medicine and it is making anxiety worse. Any suggestions and tips will help to naturally stop the acid reflux and get off-Prilosec? Also can I begin my centrum silver vitamins while on Prilosec? Thanks XXXX

You are reporting to have GERD and hiatal hernia.
Apart medical treatment, lifestyle and diet is important too.
In my clinical practice to improve symptoms in patients like you I recommend as follows :
- eat often and small amount of meal
- avoid coffee, chocolate and tea.
- avoid smocking and alcohol
- use two pillows when you lay down.
- increase physical activity
- eat 3-4 hours before going to bed.
- avoid spicy and fatty foods
- continue to use prilosec at least 8 weeks
- use antacids like gaviscon three times per day.
- try to loose weight if you are overweight
