Suggest Treatment For GERD And Sore Throat After Augmentin Course

Question: I just finished augmention for sore throat and upper respiratory cough cold stuffed sinus. I got to the point of vomiting when coughing sometimes. As well as bad nausea and mouth watering sometimes to point of vomiting while in bed sleeping. I just started omeprazole 20mg 5 days ago and it seems to be helping as the throwing up in my mouth has gotten better at night. Post nasal drip and tickle constant cough is not as bad. Slight sore throat. But now feels like a little fullness in throat and shortness of breath that makes me want to cough. Acid reflux? GERD? Silent reflux? Treatment? Inhaler? go up to 40mg? I am 37 320lbs 5'4" and I take metformin 1500mg for PCOS lexapro 30mg anxiety Please help I just want to geel better.

Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
Repeated bouts of coughing can end up in vomiting as cough center and chemo-receptor trigger zones for vomiting are close by in brain-stem.

Gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) also can cause sore throat ,watering of mouth and nausea. You need to take some prokinetic drug like domperidone(usual dose 10 mg tablet 3 times a day before meals) in addition to your proton pump inhibitor drug like omeprazole or rabeprazole daily before food. Also void fried foods,spicy items.

how many mg of omeprazole? how often? with or without food? what time of day?

what are brand names of other med? otc or prescription?

Can I take with my other meds listed in question above?

20mg omez is standard dose

Hi,

Cap. Omeprazole (OMEZ 20 mg) one orally daily before breakfast and Tab.Domperidone (Domstal 10 mg) 1 tablet three times a day before food.

Alternatively you can take either Cap. OMEZ-D (omeprazole 20 mg + domperidone 30 mg) one daily before breakfast or Tab. ESOGA-RD(Rabeprazole 20 mg +domperidone 30 mg) one daily before breakfast.

Escitalopram (Lexapro) and Metformin have no known drug interaction with either omeprazole , Rabeprazole ,or domperidone and hence can be taken together.

I suppose these are prescription drugs, please check with your doctor and get them prescribed accordingly.
