Brief Answer:
Needs endoscopy

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Based on your history and description it looks like your son has been suffering a lot because of Gerd.
I would advice the following
1. Endoscopy is must as he has been suffering for many years. Endoscopy might give information on extent of Gerd and presence of gastritis. Biopsy if required may be done endoscopically to identify rare possibilities like esinophilic gastritis or inflammation.
2. Radionuclide milk scan along with barium meal will be helpful too to assess Gerd and anatomical issues like stricture or obstruction.
3. Lanzoprazole at 15 mg daily once before breakfast will help in reducing symptoms till you complete the evaluation.
4. Also check his hemoglobin, liver and kidney function by blood test to rule out other causes of poor eating like anemia.

Let me know if you need further assistance
Wishing your son good health.
Regards
Dr Arun

Brief Answer:
not possible

Detailed Answer:
Endoscopy is very safe and absolutely essential.
It doesn't harm your child.
Giving medicines blindly without knowing what is happening inside his stomach wouldn't do good ( especially because it has persisted for years)
Lanzoprazole is the only medication I can recommend now to such kids in my clinic. Depending on endoscopy findings specific targeted medicines are possible.

You can give it for upto 2 weeks to assess response.

Sir,
GI TEST using Barium Xray will help or not. Is it possible to simultaneously check the upper and lower intestine check by x ray to check any digestive disorder, different types of barium test are there, which would you recommend for my son. Please reply asap

Brief Answer:
yes it is possible

Detailed Answer:
Barium tests are
1. Barium swallow - upper digestion tract
2. Barium meal - stomach and intestinal issues
3.Barium enema - large intestinal issues.
For your son the first two should be done initially.
This involves not eating for 8 hours before procedure.
You can go ahead with these tests.
