Brief Answer:
Acid secretion can increase due to some infections, mental stress, smoking.

Detailed Answer:

Hi XXXXXXX welcome to HCM,
This is from my book.
Acid secretion can increase due to some infections, mental stress, smoking, chewing tobacco, intake of alcohol, strong tea and coffee, food which is eaten too hot or too spicy, non vegetarian foods (which are all acidic) and foods which are difficult to digest - like fried foods, non-vegetarian foods, ground nuts, (pea-nuts) cashew nuts, pistachios, whole pulses and lentils, cheese, etc., and lastly sour foods being naturally acidic, also increase acid levels in stomach.
How can we prevent attacks?
To prevent attacks we must avoid all these triggers. Also, eat slowly, & chew food thoroughly, as it aids in digestion thus reducing the need for acid secretion. All greens are alkaline and neutralise acid; so obviously, green vegetables (cooked and salads) are good for acidity. Four hourly small meals (avoiding fasting and feasting) are advocated, as is sweetened, cold XXXXXXX milk (not chilled) during an attack. And remember this axiom – avoid hurry, curry and worry!
Hope this answers your query and helps you.
