Posted on Mon, 4 May 2015
Question: I am 31 year old. I have been suffering from IBS since last 3.5 year and it takes me around 3-4 bowel movements daily. I feel bloated immediately after eating anything, be it breakfast, lunch or dinner and urges for a bowel movement. Due to these frequent bowel movements, I feel itchy, pain and burning sensation around the anus area. Sometimes this pain is so acute that I need to take pain reliever to overcome this. Quality of my life has degraded and I feel embarrassed at times. My eating habits are breakfast at 8AM, fruits at 11.30AM, lunch at 1PM and dinner at 8PM.
I am really fed up of these symptoms as tried all the possible medicines and consulted several Gastroenterologist.
Currently my medication details are:
1.     Equirex – one tab morning empty stomach
2.     Colirid – one tab post lunch
Kindly help

Brief Answer:
More tests needed

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the additional information.
There is no specific diagnostic test for IBS.
There are few conditions producing similar symptoms which have to be ruled out before calling it IBS.
I suggest the following tests-
1. Complete blood count
2. Blood glucose
3. Tests for Celiac disease
4. Thyroid function test
5. Full length colonoscopy

Continue taking Equirex and colirid.
In addition take IBSET once in the morning and C.VSL#3 once in the afternoon.

Get back to me once the above test reports are done.

Regards,
Dr.R.K.

Hi,
Attached are the reports.

I am not able to upload my test reports through upload new reports option.

Reports uploaded for:
1. Complete blood count
2. Blood glucose
3. Thyroid function test

These symptoms started three years ago when i took whey protein supplement (Muscle tech brand), after that i became lactose intolerant for quite some time and just two months ago i started taking milk again.
I take chewing tobacco as well, does it worse the symptoms of IBS?

Brief Answer:
No chewing tobacco does not worsen it

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Tobacco chewing does not worsen the symptoms of IBS.
Your blood test report shows high cholestetrol.
The thyroid function test is normal.

You please get the other tests done which I have mentioned in my previous test and follow the advice I have given.

Avoid milk products again and see whether there is any improvement.

Regards,
Dr.R.K.

Hi,

What all foods should i avoid? Can i take eggs in breakfast?
I heard that egg, bringel and lady finger shouldn't be taken with IBS.

Does my condition has anything to do with the whey protein supplement i had taken earlier and should i start it again?

Anticipation of any new event like a meeting, conference or a strange assignment make me feel anxious and it immediately triggers a bowel movement, i think Equirex will solve this but how long should i take Equirex. is there any long term side effect?

Thanks,
XXXX
