Hi
Thank you for your follow up query.
A consultation with a gastroenterologist and colonoscopy should be done for definite diagnosis and rule out complication. IBS is a chronic disease. It can be set to remission mode with effective therapy and after remission medication should be continued for not to get an attack.
Aminosalicylates like mesalazine gives good remission in my patients. Corticosteroids will be helpful in time of acute phase. Antibiotics should be avoided. It should be used only if signs of infection is present.
Iron and vitamin B12 with folic acid should be taken for anemia. Taking Vitamin D is also good.
Avoid alcoholic beverages, caffienated drinks, greasy and fried foods.
Take low fat foods and eat small meals.
Take plenty of fluids.
If you experience tingling sensation or dizziness which can be due to vitamin B12 deficiency. In such case Vit B12 shots will help also.
For most people foods like pop corn, cabbage , broccoli, various nuts will be irritating. You should avoid the ones which irritate you. Vegetables if it irritates by eating raw then you can take them after stewing , baking or steaming.
Smoking should be avoided also.
Do stress relaxing exercises like breathing exercises. Sit with whole body relaxed and take deep breaths.
Get a proper sleep everyday. Keep a constant time for sleeping and waking up.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
