Suggest Treatment For OCD
You need psychiatrist consultation
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing through HCM.
I have read your query and understood your concerns.
First of all, you haven't visited a specialist yet and you think that you have OCD, no doctor has confirmed that.
In the old age, the symptoms of apathy, lack of motivation and initiation, lethargy are common and probably for that purpose, you might have been given the Bupron XL. It is right drug for theses symptomatology but not for OCD.
So before asking for zoloft, prozac or any other SSRI drugs, you need to visit a psychiatrist. Tell him what are your thoughts and feeling? Which symptoms bothers you? He will guide you through the treatment and prescribe the right medication.
If the bupron is causing problems then visit the prescribing doctor and report the issues. Do not make changes on your own.
Yeah, it is right that zoloft is good drug for treatment of OCD. It will help you if you really have OCD.
Hope I have answered your query. If you have further query then I will be happy to help you.
Wish you good health.
would not stop taking this without speaking to my GP. Jus
t wanted to get some information to give him. My pharm. said that Paxel is a good med for OCD. Is the med I am on making my systems worse?
Only saw psy three times. I will have my GP find another one for me but I am not in a rush as
tired of losing doctors yaht time they are all retiring.
Can you give me anymore information to tell my GP and any suggestions to get more information on my problem?
Thank you,XXXX
Bupron is not expected to make you worse
Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for writing again.
The side effects of Bupropion are agitation, dry mouth, insomnia, headache, nausea, constipation, and tremor. Some patients may experience weight loss. Seizures also occur, especially at higher doses. If any of these has happened to you after starting bupron then it must be the side effect of the drug.
OCD is a type of severe anxiety disorder according to DSM IV, but now it has been categorized under the category of OCD spectrum disorder in DSM 5. It consists of obsessions and compulsions. Some of the patient have only obsessions and not compulsions. Compulsion can be the behavioral activity like washing hands repeatedly, or mental acts like repeating name of god etc. Some patients do not know that these symptoms are actually a disorder and then it becomes severe. On your part you know everything about your symptoms, so there are more chances of getting better.
Most effective drugs for OCD are Fluoxetine [prozac], sertraline [zoloft], fluvoxamine [luvox], clomipramine [anafranil]. These are the chosen drugs for OCD. You can have anyone of these, if the symptoms are not controlled with anyone drug then after 3 months another can be added to ongoing treatment, but you need to these all under the observation of doctor.
You can read about the symptoms of OCD, treatment and prognosis of OCD. You can search for diagnostic criteria for OCD. You can take a copy of these search with you when you visit your GP and ask him to have a look. You can suggest these drugs to your GP if he has no knowledge of treatment of OCD. Important thing here is to confirm the diagnosis before going for treatment.
Hope I have answered your query. If you have further query then feel free to ask.
If you do not have further query then close the discussion and rate the answer.
Wish you good health.
