Brief Answer:
You can use Aleve to reduce ear pain.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,thank you for posting your query on HealthcareMagic,

Looking at your symptoms, there might be following possibilities:

1.)Otomycosis-fungal infection of the outer ear.
It occurs commonly when there is a history of water going inside ear.The increased moisture may lead to fungal infection.
It needs to be cleaned by an Otolaryngologist doctor and afterwards you have to use Antifungal ear drops for about 7-10 days.
The pain in the ear may get relieved by taking Aleve(Naproxen) which you are already using. For the itching, you may use Antihistaminic like Cetrizine.

2.)Impacted wax in the ear canal-the wax may have got impacted after you made a try to self clean your ear.The wax also needs to get cleaned by Otolaryngologist doctor. Here also, the ear pain may get relieved by taking Aleve(Naproxen).

3.)Otitis externa-inflammation of the skin of outer ear canal.
It generally occurs after a trial of self cleaning of ear.
In such a case, you need to apply Antibiotic ointment like Soframycin over the outer ear canal. For the relief of pain-Aleve and for the relief of itching-Antihistaminic like Cetrizine will help.

4.)Secretory otitis media-it occurs due to fluid collection in the middle ear, generally due to a nasal cold infection. In such a case, you may use Oral Decongestant like Phenylephrine and Nasal decongestant drops like Oxymetazoline(use decongestant only if you are not suffering from hypertension, heart disease, liver disease, kidney or urinary problems or high pressure in the eyes-glaucoma),Antihistaminic like Cetrizine and Analgeics with Anti-inflammatory like Naproxen.

So you may use the above medicines. But it would be advisable to consult an Otolaryngologist Doctor for the examination of your ear and treatment accordingly.

Hope this answers your question.I would be happy to answer if you have any follow-up questions.Take care.
