Suggest Treatment For Raynaud's Syndrome In A Child

Question: My 11 year old son was just diagnosed with Raynaud's. Right now our doctor is trying to determine if it is primary or secondary. Our doctor is on Vacation until the 30th. His Sed Rate was 15 with normal 0-10. I received a phone call on Friday that his ANA was positive, his RF was negative the only other lab result that was off was his Albumin at 4.9 (ref range 3.1-4.8). When he is cold or stressed all of his fingers go pure white and can take up to an hour or more before they change to red. When his fingers are white he cries with pain. We do all that we can to keep him bundled up and warm. He is always cold especially his feet. He is very small for his age at 58.8 pounds and 53 inches. He eats like no other. He has only gained 4 ounces in the past year. With the above labs should I be concerned that he could have secondary Raynaud's? The only medication he takes is OTC Lactaid, a gummy vitamin and OTC Claritin prn. I should add that when pregnant with our daughter I did test positive for the Lupus Anticoagulant Antibody. Would this be in any way a contributing factor?

Brief Answer:
please upload the full reports

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

all the data suggest primary disease particularly the young age and lack of symptoms of systemic disease. In order to have a better understanding of his condition please upload the full reports (not only the ANA or albumin). I'd like to see what tests have been done and their results. Positive ANA does not mean much by itself.

Although there seems to be some genetic predisposition for various autoimmune disorders they cannot be considered hereditary.

I'll be waiting for the reports. Please scan and upload them (or take a photo and upload it if scanning is not possible). You can send them directly at my email address for convenience:

He is also complaining of severe pain when his hands are red prior to turning white, when his hands are white he says they tingle like when your foot or hand is asleep. He also complains of pain all the time in his fingers, wrists, ankles and toes. I have attached the labs.

seen the labs, please check my answer

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the additional information.

He does have positive ANA after all with diffuse pattern. The titers are relatively low (1:80). Diffuse pattern can be caused by lupus (either drug induced or systemic lupus erythematosus) ,scleroderma and mixed connective tissue disease. The antibodies are not diagnostic though. Clinical data (besides Raynaud's) are important to determine the diagnosis. When there is no clinical symptom, monitoring is usually the best course of action.

Checking dsDNA, scl-70, chromatin antibodies would help.

Regarding his symptoms, they're expected. Raynaud's phenomenon may indeed cause pain and color changes, that's not strange.
