Question: my son is smoking pain pills. is there anything I can do to help him to quit?

your son is having tramdol addiction.
tramadol main composition of pain pills, is an opioid derivative, lots of teenagers are addicted to it.
he is having the age of 22 so it is easy to stop.

whenever he will stop smoke this pill he will have withdrawal symptoms so better to go for deaadiction clinic.
he will have the withdrawal symptoms like
1 rhinorrhea, nasl secretion sneezing
2 lacrimation yawning, gooseflesh , nausea vomiting
3 diarrhea, abdominal and lag cramping.
4 reduced sleep.

treatment should be done in deaddiction clinics and on admission basis only.
because their are good chances of early relief and stopping of this habit.
treatment includes
1.initially
medication: long acting opioid derivatives like methadone beronorphine and clonidine.
some benzodiazepines are given to reduce craving and for good sleep.
some drugs like naltrexone to reduce the pleasure he is getting while smoking.
2. to maintain the quitting phase life long need of patient and family education.
rehabilitation and proper training is very much important to prevent relapse.
group therapies, behavioral therapies, self management will help a lot to overcome this addiction.

initially during treatment he will have outburst of emotions, change aggressive behavior. so have patience.
his problem is easily treatable.

do not worry just visit a psychiatrist and deaddiction clinic and try to treat him inpatient basis for better result. you are taking very good step , at very good time. his whole life will have a very good impact and a desire beautiful change after quitting this habit.
