Posted on Thu, 2 Feb 2017
Question: I am an 82 year old male who had a triple CABG 2 years ago. I currently self-cath 4-5 times daily. I recently had a UTI and was on Macrobid for 10 days. My kidney function is at 35%. I have been diagnosed with prostate cancer, with a PSA ranging from 3.5 to 7.. depending on activity levels. My blood is checked every 3 months. I am now suffering with itching around my head, face, abdominal and genital area. There is no rash. It has become unbearable; I cannot function.

Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query. Although your PSA is raised, it is still on the lower side. For men diagnosed with early-stage prostate cancer, local treatments, such as surgery or radiation therapy, may get rid of the cancer completely. So, you need to get a thorough evaluation done by your doctor. Treatment line will depend upon his assessment.

The kidney function is poor. Could you please specify the creatinine level in blood? Based on that interventions like dialysis have to be planned.

Application of candid (clotrimazole) powder can help in relieving the itchiness if it is due to fungal cause. Taking cetirizine once daily for next few days should help.

Let me know if I could help further.
