Question: Trying to figure out whether or not this is a cold sore next to my lower lip. It doesn't itch but I pick at it sometimes so it hurts/burns a little. Only one I have, not in a cluster, nowhere else on my body. Please help! :(

Brief Answer:
First possibility is a cold sore

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear Madam,

Welcome to the site!
I am Dr V XXXXXXX a Sr Dermatologist and I will attend to your concerns and help you find a solution.

I have examined the pics and observe that the description and the examination match a cold sore.

The cold sores are due to a viral infection by the Herpes group of viruses. These tend to subside in due course; but recurrences are a definite concern and at times these lesions are bothersome requiring medicinal treatment.

I assume that it is the first time that you got this problem. I would strongly recommend that antivirals be taken.

In my patients, I use following measures:

1 Acyclovir preparation 200 mg, given five times per day.

2 Acyclovir cream used five times daily

3 Antiallergics like Levocetrizine 5 mg a day for itching

4 Frequent cleaning with fresh water

Generally the response to treatment is very good and lesions start showing improvement in two to three days.

I would be glad to provide more help and support, should it be needed.

Best wishes.
