Suggest Treatment For A Kidney Stone

Question: Yes, thank you. My left kidney has a large stone that is blocking the urinary track. The left kidnet also has another stone and a few smaller stones. I have had a neprothomy tube in the back of my kidney now for about three months and have seen teo urologists whose only interest is removing my kidney based upon a functionality test of about 10percent. I was advised to have a renogram test again. I have not been given any other options and I question the reliability and accuracy of a renogram when the urinary tract is obstructed. Is there a way to dissolve the stones by medicine and why don't they perform a lithotripsy?

The size of the staghorn stone isn 2.7x1.7. type calculus within the renal pelvis. There are multiple left renal calculi as well. Moderate left hydronephrosis. 2/8/2016, the creatinine was 0.7, BUN:17. One doctor wants to remove the entire left kidney. I am diabetic and have malapsorption issues. The right kidney also has stone. I am very fearful of ending up on dialiysis and do not want my kidney removed. Can the staghorn stone which is creating a blockage be removed by a surgical technique or are the medications treatments that can dissolve the stone. I have a history of urinary tract infections and the problem was discovered by a CTscan a few months ago when I was evaluated with a kidney infection. Do you have any advise other than removing my kidney?
Brief Answer:
Percutaneous nephrolithotomy/ nephrolithotripsy
Detailed Answer:
Welcome back and thanks for additional information.
In this case lithotripsy is not a good option, because the stone is bigger than 2 cm.
In my opinion, this stone can be removed surgically by procedures such percutaneous nephrolithotomy and percutaneous nephrolithotripsy.
Stone of that measure is almost impossible to be dissolved by medications.
Hope I helped you.
Take care.
